Xero establishes innovation-focused role

Platform provider Xero has established a new role aimed at accelerating automation, business systems rollout and big data innovation across the business.

Tony Stewart, the former chief executive of Intergen, has been named as the firm's chief data officer.

Xero chief executive Rod Drury said the new executive role was established to focus on strategic data assets and automation projects.

"Automation and innovation are crucial factors to scaling a business."

He added: "Over time we'll also be able to create entirely new products and services that use data."

Mr Drury said Mr Stewart's expertise in technology and experience in building high-growth companies will allow Xero to focus on "delivering on its global growth opportunity".

"[Mr Stewart's] knowledge of building technology growth companies, combined with his deep expertise in business process automation, data analysis and analytics will bring significant benefit to our automation projects and our strategic data assets."

He added: "Tony has very specific data skills and expertise in this area, and I wanted someone of his calibre on our global leadership team to own the complex combination of internal development and best of breed software tools."

Mr Drury added that for all companies where data is central to the business, a focus on data analytics and analysis is instrumental.
